Heat resisting austenitic grades can be used at high temperatures. These stainless steels are also widely used at high temperature when carbon and low-alloyed steels do not provide adequate corrosion resistance and/or strength. They can be found in applications where high-temperature oxidation resistance or high-temperature strength is required.
Heat Resisting Austenitic Grades
High temperature austenitic stainless steels are designed primarily for use at temperatures exceeding 550 °C (i.e., in the temperature range where creep strength is the determining factor). The composition of these steels provide a long service life in dry gases at high temperatures (800–1150 °C), providing good resistance to oxidation rather than resistance to aqueous corrosion.
Our heat resisting grades are characterised by a high chromium (17–25 %) and high nickel (8–20 %) content with the exclusion of molybdenum. Silicon is added in some grades to increase oxidation resistance.
